ANTI-SOCIAL MEDIA
If you are going to use social media this is how I think you'll get the best return.
I'd never tell any of my clients to be loud, derogatory to the competition or showy offey.
Except of course when it comes to social media.
Then it's vital.
You are blogging, Facebooking and Twittering in order to tell people about your brand.
The only problem is 100 million other brands are doing the same.
So you need to be a loud as a 2-year-old high on Fruit Shoot.
Relevant is a good idea too.
Unfortunately most people who use social media fail to employ these tactics.
They write copy that has all the charm of a motorway service station.
If you are blogging your headline is the most important part of your piece.
Don't just settle for the first thing that comes into your head spend time crafting it.
Imagine you are writing a headline for a newspaper.
It's got to be punchy or contain something astonishing or news I can't do without.
Do try and show off when writing, always use everyday words.
Stick to the facts and keep your paragraphs small.
Right, you've finished your piece now comes the hard part: editing.
Here you have to be brutal.
Aim to lose half of what you've put down.
Remember, people are busy.
Finally have a look at your last line.
This should be the knock out punch.
Something that wraps the whole thing up and leaves people wanting to know more about your brand/offer/new product.
I've spent over 20 years writing copy for the likes of BMW, Vodafone and BP, these tips have worked for them I'm sure they'll work for you.
