Netwalking, a great walk and a great networking opportunity

We will meet at 10am at Ramsbottom train station which is on the East Lancashire Railway (but no trains on that day) to the north of Bury. GR 794 168 on the Explorer 287 West Pennine Moors map. Approximate post code is BL0 9AQ

Leader

Our leader for the day is again Alexis Valentine and this is what he has to say about the route:

8 MILE WALK AROUND THE ROSSENDALE VALLEY

The walk crosses the Irwell from the Station walking through Strongstry to Stubbins and along the lane to Chatterton to take part of the Irwell trail to Irwell Vale. From Irwell Vale we will walk to Snig Hole in Helmshore up through Alden Rise to walk the ancient path up to Holcombe moor passing Robin Hoods Well and the Cairn marking the spot Ellen Strange was murdered before reaching Holcombe Tower. From Holcombe tower we will walk down through the wood behind The Shoulder of Mutton Pub onto Dundee Lane and then back down through Ramsbottom to the Station at the bottom of Bridge Street.
