Which is the best security software on the market?

Our member Linten Technologies as provides some useful info

Whilst technology has come on in leaps and bounds over the past decade or so, cybercrime has unfortunately kept pace. Attacks on businesses are alarmingly common, but advanced security software is constantly being redeveloped in an attempt to stay one step ahead.

It’s reassuring to see so many different solutions out there, yet this poses a predicament for the average business owner: which one is best? The Linten team conducted an experiment to get to the bottom of it.

The expectations

At Linten, there two security systems we recommend to our clients: Symantec Endpoint Cloud and Acronis Backup. Our experience with these systems is that they are both highly dependable and robust in the face of most types of attack – especially when combined.

However, given how many box-fresh machines are already armed with Windows Defender, some business owners do not deem it necessary to take the next step up in cybersecurity and opt for extra protection.

Ultimately, we expected Windows Defender to fare okay during the experiment, whilst Symantec and Acronis would comfortably knock back everything we threw at them.

The experiment

We decided to create a laboratory environment; infiltrating systems with different ransomware viruses and analysing how the systems coped. There were 13 virus strands all in all, and the table below determines how successful they were against each of the security systems.

Windows Defender fared extremely poorly in the experiment, with every virus breaking in and affecting the system. Symantec and Acronis performed admirably, as we expected, but a single strand still managed to slither through in each scenario. With ransomware, even one virus can pose all kinds of problems later down the line.

The conclusion

Ultimately, the results showed that basic antivirus software is unable to compete with ransomware. However, when we decided to test the more advanced systems – occasionally combining one with another – the viruses simply couldn’t get through:

This proves that opting for advanced solutions with multiple integrated features (as well as standard antivirus software) is absolutely essential when it comes to defending your company against malicious infections.

That’s why we always recommend that our clients opt for Acronis Backup with Symantec Endpoint Cloud. This yields a complete defence against all ransomware, offering the option to enable malware detection systems and raising alerts when files are encrypted.

Antivirus software is only part of the picture for successfully keeping your business safe, and Linten can supply you with all the necessary tools to protect your network from potential threats.
