FREE HR Seminar in Manchester

The reality is people get sick. No matter what you do, on a long enough timeline, you’re going to catch a cold, get that stomach bug, or be floored by flu. It’s therefore inevitable that staff are going to have to take some time off, and many businesses just accept this as a normal part of business-life.

All of that is fair enough, people are allowed to be ill, and should be given the space and support to recover at home. However, such an approach can mean that there is no clear cut process or policy in place for the actual management of absence.

If no one is keeping an eye on what’s going on, how can you identify any trends that may appear? What if a particular member of staff is constantly having the last day of the month off? Is there are a reason? Is something happening at home, or at work, that is making it difficult for them to perform their duties on those days?

Ensuring you have a strong system in place to record and monitor absences throughout the business, will also ensure you are fully informed about what’s going on. Ultimately that means you will be better placed to react when necessary to the needs of your staff, and provide whatever support they deem to be necessary and/or appropriate to ensure that a short-term absence does not later become a longer one.

Who is this for?

The reality is, this seminar is going to be vital for anyone who has staff, regardless of industry or size. It’s even going to be a great place to get some useful information if you’re thinking about taking on staff in the near future.

We will be covering a wide range of topics and issues, including how managing sickness absence can help reduce lost time, underperformance, management time and effort, as well as recruitment time and expense. We will also look at the often difficult area of disability related absence, and the increase in Tribunals since these became free for employees to raise. Do not let your absence management policy, or lack of one, be a reason someone has grounds to complain about your business.

When?

Our Managing Performance by Managing Absence seminar will take place at The Binks Building, 30-32 Thomas Street in the Northern Quarter, Manchester (M4 1BD) on Thursday, 6th September 2018.

We will be meeting from 8am, where a light breakfast will be available. The seminar will start at 8.30am with a view to finishing at 10am (depending on Q&As).

Speakers will include members from the People Matters Team, as well as a guest speaker from our partners at BreatheHR.
